Perfect 10 Countdown: Going for the Gold Gala 2018 – DAY 7 – Gala Honorees

It’s DAY 7 of the Going for the Gold Gala Perfect 10 Countdown!

“It takes a village” is my favorite quote to describe my foundation and especially our annual fundraiser. We have always had champions from the corporate, community, non-profit and other sports support and generously give to our event.

Simon M. Lorne, Chief Legal Officer and Vice Chairman of Millennium Management LLC will receive our 2018 Going for the Gold Corporate Award.

“Wendy Hilliard, through her Foundation, has used gymnastics as an entry point to provide discipline and incentives for goal-oriented behavior to a large number of children in generally underserved communities.  I am humbled to receive this honor from the Foundation, and will treasure it greatly.” Simon M. Lorne

We also want to recognize our past honorees and emcees for their wonderful support as well!

Perfect 10 Countdown: Going for the Gold Gala 2018 – DAY 4 – Bruno Klaus

It’s DAY 4 of the Going for the Gold Gala Perfect 10 Countdown!

This year, our Spirit of Sport honoree is USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame member Bruno Klaus!

Bruno Klaus began gymnastics at the age of 12 in New York. He competed under Coach Bill Meade at Southern Illinois University. He was also a National Turner Junior and National AAU Junior Champion. Bruno was chosen to be a member of the 1966 U.S. State Department sponsored exhibition gymnastic team that traveled to Europe and Africa. Bruno founded, organized, developed, and served as president of the internationally famous International Gymnastics Camp in Pennsylvania.

Gymnasts have been attending the legendary International Gymnastics Camp for over 40 years. Through its programs and commitment to gymnastics, founder Bruno Klaus has given an unforgettable experience to athletes of all ages. Bruno and IGC have also been longtime supporters of Wendy Hilliard and the Wendy Hilliard Gymnastics Foundation. This year, the WHGF is honoring Bruno during its annual gala celebration.

Last year, Bruno was the recipient of the 2017 World Acrobatic Society’s Golden Achievement Award

Black Gymnasts in History 2018: Shenea Booth

sbooth

Acrobatics (Sports Acro) is one of my favorite gymnastics disciplines. We had an acro team at Detroit Metro Gymnasts, and I did some acro choreography back in the day.

I have only been able to watch from the sidelines, but the career that Sheana Booth had along with her partner, Arthur Davis, was incredible.

What has been as impressive as their competitive days is their professional career. Being a finalist for America’s Got Talent allowed millions to witness their extraordinary skills.

For being one of the top acrobatic gymnasts in the world along with her partner, we are glad to feature Shenea Booth today in our Black Gymnasts in History project.
